• Question: if the physical ground of the Earth disappeared would the atmosphere disappear instantly or over a certain amount of time

      I don’t think this would ever happen!
      Anyway, whether or not a planet retains an atmosphere over(millions of years depends on the mass of the planet, the radius of the planet, the temperature of the atmosphere and the composition of the atmosphere. So if the mass of the planet would disappear instantly the atmosphere would go away in just a small amount of time…

      If the ground disappear I would be worried about the red hot magma thats under it 😉
